Well today is the day that Genie+ officially becomes renamed to Lightning Lane Multi-Pass. A mouthful perhaps, but definitely provides some much needed clarity to the Lightning Lane system. So while it may be out with the old and in with the new at Walt Disney World in Orlando, the same can't quite be said for Disneyland Resort in California. Let's dive into it.
Disneyland Resort, Anaheim CA
Let's start with this one as it's a slightly simpler change. If you were familiar with the former system, this won't feel too dissimilar aside from a more long winded name. Genie+ for all intents and purposes has merely been rebranded to Lightning Lane Multi-Pass. Just like with Genie+ you can purchase it at the time of booking for the entirety of your trip, or purchase each day to suit you each day as you go. You will still be able to make your first Lightning Lane selection using your Multi-Pass (formerly Genie+) in the morning upon entry. Once you've redeemed your selection (or after 2 hours has passed since you made your selection), you can book your next multi pass attraction.
You can make Lightning Lane selections one at a time throughout the day.
You can modify your Lightning Lane selections via the Tip Board in the Disneyland app.
Selections are subject to limited availability and are not guaranteed. Limit one Lightning Lane entry per attraction, per day. Prices, terms and entitlements are subject to restrictions and change or cancellation without notice.
Nothing new here. Because the Multi-Pass doesn't cover some of the most popular attractions, you can still also select Individual Lightning Lanes for purchase but instead of being called an Individual Lightning Lane (ILL) that option will now be called a Lightning Lane Single-Pass. So as far as we're concerned as consumers, it's just a new name.

Walt Disney World, Orlando FL
Now we're moving on to slightly more convoluted territory, I'll admit. While the names are also being changed over at Walt Disney World, the processes and procedures for using the Multi-Passes and Single-Passes are getting an entire overhaul as well. As a general overarching rule, the Lightning Lane Multi-Passes and Lightning Lane Single-Passes can be purchased 7 days in advance for guests staying on site, and 3 days for all other guests. At that time you may also make your first 3 Lightning Lane Multi-Pass selections for the entirety of your trip (up to 14 days). Important to note that at this time, it appears you have to be located within the United States or Canada in order to purchase and book. So what does this mean?
Lightning Lane Single-Passes at Walt Disney World
Depending on where you are staying, at the 7 or 3 day mark (or upon entering the US) you can purchase a maximum of 2 Lightning Lane Single-Passes for each day of your trip (up to 14 days). You will be able to select a return time for those Single-Passes. This is great because you no longer have to panic morning of making last minute plans, you'll be able to see up front what's available and the pricing at the time of booking and plan accordingly allowing you to focus your mornings on those coveted Virtual Queues instead.

Once again, depending on where you are staying, at the 7 or 3 day mark (or upon entering the US) you can purchase Lightning Lane Multi-Passes for each day for the duration of your trip (up to 14 days). When booking you will be able to pre-select the first THREE attractions for your lightning lanes; one from Group 1, and two from Group 2. You will be able to make another selection for a lightning lane (availability depending) after checking in to each lightning lane reservation. While the Multi-Pass will be valid at any park with a Park Hopper ticket, you must select only 1 park for your Multi-Pass booking and initial Lightning Lane selections.
As an example, if you book your Lightning Lane Multi-Pass for EPCOT, all three of your initial Lightning Lane selections must be for EPCOT attractions, but once you redeem your first Lightning Lane, you can select your next from any available attractions at either EPCOT or any of the other three parks.
